
Gaga has met with performance artist Lady Starlight during this time in 2007; following her performance at Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records which is an imprint from Interscope Records. Gaga signed a publishing contract with Sony/ATV after she had been an apprentice in the songwriter's job for Famous Music Publishing. The company then hired her to write songs for the benefit of Britney Spears and her label mates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The debut album of Gaga's in 2008 "The Fame" was met with only minimal media coverage. Gaga went on tour throughout Europe and the US to promote her album. But it was not until her 2009 smash 'Just Dance that mainstream attention was paid to her music. Gaga suffered a labral tear on her right hip which she was nursing for several weeks with the hopes that she would be able continue her tour. The singer was unable walk after a concert in Toronto and was in extreme pain. The tour was cancelled.
